Dr. David M. Chico

David M. Chico

Dr. Chico is active in several national and state professional organizations.  He is the past Chair of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine, past Chair of the Credentials Committee of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Past President and current Vice-President of the National Alliance of State Animal and Agricultural Emergency Programs and the current Secretary of the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition.  In addition, Dr. Chico was recently appointed to the New York State Education Department’s Board of Veterinary Medicine for a 5 year term and currently serves on Albany Medical Center’s Institutional Biosafety Committee.

Dr. Chico enjoys volunteering with several national organizations and has deployed on several large dog fighting and cock fighting cases as well as participated in international disaster relief in the Philippines after Hurricane Haiyan in 2013. Dr. Chico also participates locally in the Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) program of the Albany Damien Center. The PAWS program provides free veterinary care as well as in-home support to the animals owned by individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS that meet federal poverty guidelines in five upstate NY counties.
